Anusara Yoga was developed by master Yogi John Friend with the unique approach of following your heart and flowing with grace. Anusara Yoga embraces the human spirit and joyfully blends this with the science of biomechanics. The Anusara Yoga system integrates the celebration of the heart, universal principles of alignment, (energy loops, and spirals) and balanced energetic action into the performance of asanas.

 

Mixed Levels Class Description:

Olynda's fluid teaching style blends life-affirming Tantric philosophy, precise physical alignment, and playfulness to encourage a deepening of self-awareness, a deeper connection to the heart and an ability to move beyond perceived limitations. This class will be open to all levels of yoga students - from the brand new beginner to the more seasoned practitioner of yoga. She will offer many choices in the yoga poses so each student can work right at their own edge - and get the most out of their own practice. We will explore the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment in detail as a way of promoting total health and harmony in our bodies, minds and hearts. Olynda creates a nurturing and empowering space in which you will discover and celebrate your strength, wisdom and beauty.

Intermediate Class Description:


This intermediate class is ideal for those who have had an introduction to yoga and would like to explore some intermediate level poses. Choices will always be given so that each student can find their own edge in each pose. This class is also perfect for those who have been practicing yoga for a while but are new to Anusara yoga. We will explore the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment in detail as a way of promoting total health and harmony in our bodies, minds and hearts. Olynda Smith's fluid teaching style blends life-affirming Tantric philosophy, precise physical alignment, and playfulness to encourage a deepening of self-awareness, a deeper connection to the heart and an ability to move beyond perceived limitations. Olynda creates a nurturing and empowering space in which you will discover and celebrate your strength, wisdom and beauty. After many years of studying dance and capoeira, Olynda came to yogaand fell in love! She is currently an Anusara Yoga certified teacher, with 8 years of yoga teaching experience. She feels blessed to have completed her level 1 and 2 teacher trainings with John Friend. She has also completed Therapy Training with John Friend in 2007 and again in 2010. Anusara Yoga trainings are exhaustively extensive and define a highly trained yoga instructor...only 300 other teachers in the world have achieved this honor! Olynda gives thanks to all her teachers: John Friend, Jonathan Goldman, Elena Bower, Zhenja la Rosa and especially Sommer and Paul Sobin (who introduced her to the elegant and clear system of Anusara). After years of living in New York City, and Maui, Olynda is delighted to be back home with her NC kula.
